Capitol Theatre Poster Design
This design was selected by the staff through a competitive selection process. The illustration is inspired by The Prince and the Pauper and subtly plays with a visual reversal: the figure who appears to be the prince is actually the pauper, and the one who seems poor is the true prince. This quiet twist adds a layer of narrative surprise without breaking the gentle, family-friendly atmosphere. As the event takes place annually in Nelson and is rooted in the town’s historic and family-oriented traditions, I intentionally used soft pastel tones and warm textures to evoke a sense of nostalgia, comfort, and inclusiveness. The overall visual language aims to feel welcoming to all ages while honoring the timeless, storybook quality of the event.
