Coffee 9
This illustration was commissioned by Coffee 9 and reimagines traditional Korean minhwa (folk painting) through a contemporary lens. Drawing from the visual language of historical group scenes, the work playfully parodies classic motifs while translating them into a modern context connected to everyday coffee culture. The figures are rendered with simplified forms and bold black-and-white contrast, preserving the communal spirit and narrative density of traditional minhwa while introducing contemporary symbols and branding. This blend of old and new reflects how cultural heritage can remain alive through reinterpretation rather than replication. By modernizing a familiar visual tradition, the illustration bridges past and present, inviting viewers to experience Korean folk imagery in a fresh and accessible way.
