1. Project Title & Overview
West 4th Avenue Wrapping Project: The Cloud of Kits
Key Objective:
Enhancing street vitality and visualizing regional identity through functional public art.
2. Site Analysis & Insights
Analysis:
The site is a high-traffic corridor for both pedestrians and vehicles. However, existing public fixtures were aging and lacked visual cohesion with the vibrant Kitsilano atmosphere.
Insight:
To ensure visibility from moving cars while engaging pedestrians, a bold and vivid color strategy was required to break the monotony of the gray streetscape.
3. Design Strategy
Approach:
Applying a “Functional Public Art” perspective to transform standard street infrastructure into a community landmark.
Keywords: Playful, Cozy, Vibrant, Interactive.
Color Palette:
Sky Blue & Vivid White (representing the clouds) with high-contrast accents for safety and aesthetic impact.
4. Concept Sketch & Ideation
Concept: In collaboration with stakeholders, “Clouds” were selected as the central theme to evoke the playful yet cozy vibe of Kitsilano.
Strategic Detail: By integrating the word “KITS” into the cloud patterns, the design encourages tourists to stop and take photos, transforming a transitional space into a “stay-and-watch” destination.
AI Visualization: Utilizing AI rendering to simulate realistic before-and-after views, ensuring precise alignment with the client’s vision during the development phase.
